On the eve of her grandmother's death, Terry (the filmmaker) receives a box of riveting letters written from Teddy to Sally. The letters reveal that the couple could never marry, and that when their secret was discovered by colonial society in Aden, the social and emotional repercussions shook the small family to its core. Tony initially refuses to read the letters, unable to face the haunting spectre of his past.
